Volunteer

Volunteer Opportunities are Available at All Three Branches for Both Individuals & Groups

Harvest Hope Food Bank utilizes nearly 11,000 volunteers a year in order to keep operations running at our various facilities. Last year volunteers put in more than 66,000 hours of service with Harvest Hope saving us over 1.3 million dollars in staffing costs!

Before You Volunteer

All volunteers are required to go through a volunteer orientation. The orientation is offered several times a month and lasts approximately one hour. If you are part of a large group, a single member may attend and then relay the information back to your team. To sign-up for orientation, please scroll down to find your location, and click the link to complete the form.

Volunteer Opportunities

Emergency Food Pantry
We currently have two full-time Emergency Food Pantries at our Shop Road facility in Columbia and on White Horse Road in Greenville. These pantries help any individuals or families that come to our doors looking for assistance during their time of need. Each of these pantries utilizes volunteers to help sort and pack food as well as work in client intake.

Product Rescue
A fun place to work inspecting, sorting, and boxing the donated food that comes in through our community food drives. This job does require light physical activity (bending, light lifting, etc.) and is a great team building project for small groups!

Kids Cafe Kitchen
Our first kitchen for the Kids Cafe program is up and running! We have a wonderful chef who, each day, leads a few volunteers to prepare hot meals for children in need. Volunteers are needed from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Groups
Our ability to work with groups changes throughout the time of year and per facility. If you are interested in bringing in a group, please scroll down to find your group’s location, and click the link to complete the form.

Court Mandated/Pre-Trial Intervention (PTI) Community Service
We accept court mandated and PTI community service on a case by case basis. Please note that we never accept those with charges of violence, theft, sexual misconduct or drug distribution. Please contact your local branch to see if you qualify to serve your hours with us.

Administrative Volunteer
Like all organizations, we have an abundance of administrative tasks that need to be done but we try to minimize staffing costs so we can spend the money on food. Areas include data entry, phone calls, filing, etc.

Community Representative
As you can imagine, our 20 county service area presents us with many opportunities to speak in public about our mission, read Stone Soup to the children at a local school, man a table at a community fair and more. We are always in need of friendly faces who believe in HHFB to share our story.
